A survey has revealed that almost a third of people would consider going abroad for medical or dental treatment.

The survey was carried out by Ipsos and involved more than 18,000 people in 24 different countries, revealing that 1 in 3 people would consider going overseas for treatment, while 18 per cent said that they would definitely make a trip abroad for dental or medical treatment.

Nicolas Boyon, Senior Vice President of Ipsos Public Affairs, said that the concept of medical tourism is becoming more popular. At least a third of people in most countries are open to the idea of travelling abroad; the exception to the rule was Japan.

The survey revealed that people in India, Russia, Mexico and Poland were most open to the idea of medical tourism, while those in Spain, Japan, Sweden and South Korea were least impressed by the concept.

The main draw of medical tourism is cost. Often, travelling abroad could save you hundreds, even thousands, of pounds and you get the opportunity to take a holiday at the same time.
